I started sculpting earlier this year when I was recovering from a health issue. I found out that I love to make fantasy creatures, miniature food, and whatever just flows when I sit down with my clay.
A lot of people ask me what kind of clay I use, so I'm just going to to go ahead and list some of my favourite products here.
- Sculpey III - is what I use for small things like charms
- Sculpey Premo - I use for medium size figures
- Super Sculpey I use for crafting dragons and other large figures.
- Wire armature for large projects
- Tin foil where I can, I like the lightness of a finished project featuring tin foil
- I finish my work with a variety of things - I often will paint the Super Sculpey (otherwise it's flesh tone). For that I use a combination of Golden paints and Folk Art paint.
- Once a project is coloured the way I like the best, I seal it with a UV resin, or in some cases just with Fimo's gloss finishing seal
I'm enjoying the freedom of sculpting, I like that sometimes I sit down with one idea of what I'm going to create and then later I find that I've created something completely different but even cooler than what I had planned.
Here is a picture of a Frosty the Snowman figure I made, it has magnets in the base so that it can be removed from the stand.
